24 MAN TEAM

The "24-Man Team" is a club versus club match play tournament conducted by the Minnesota Public Golf Association.  The matches are played at scratch - no handicaps are involved.  Each club sends 24 players to each match.  The 24 players are paired into 12 two-man teams.  Each two-man team plays a match play match against a two-man team from the other club.  Each match is worth 3 points. one for each nine and one for the entire 18. The matches are conducted on the first Sunday of each month.

The Fox Hollow Men's Club is entered in this competition.  Check the "News" section below for information from team Captain Joe Sicora.  Click Here to see the tournament bracket. (pdf)

24-MAN TEAM NEWS

September 25, 2008
Well boys, here it is. Final match of 2008. Lets go out with a bang. We have been deserted by a number of our regulars. It gives some new people a chance to step up to the plate. As always there will be a $10 team skins game. I will need to leave immediately following my round. Dave Sack has graciously agreed to stick around and collect money and record the results. Please keep a card with your team best ball to turn in to Dave. We are down 3 points to Hiawatha, but we do have home field advantage. Play well.

Thanks to everyone who played today. We are only down 3 points to Hiawatha with a return match at Fox on sept. 28. We will need a good turnout to beat them for the consolation championship.( I think it would be a perfect weekend for college students to make a trip home and play some golf). The weather mostly cooperated, but the course played a little long. There were 5 skins: Jacobson -horvath 3 on 18, kostelecky -sicora 3 on 5 and 4 on 7, Halstrom -walker 3on 9and Cargill -Ferber a 3 on1. If you did not get your money, I will leave it in the pro shop.

August 3, 2008
Well boys, This is a first. Monticello literally can only come up with 2 players who are willing to come and take us on. Their captain is ashamed and apologizes. He is going to come and play on our fine course, but the match has been conceded and we are moving on to the next round on sep. 7.

July 13, 2008

Thanks to everyone who played today. We are ahead 24 -12. Monticello was missing several of their better players and I'm sure will be coming at us hard on aug 3 at home. Everyone whose handicap starts with a 3 or lower please keep aug 3 open. As usual the lowest 20 handicaps who are available will be playing plus 4 captains choices.

June 1, 2008
Once again thanks to everyone who played today. Special thanks to Dave Sack who as first alternate kept his schedule free in case of someone pulling up lame. We played well, fighting to an 18-18 tie at Chaska. Unfortunately we were down 3 going in and are now in the consolation bracket. Only 2 teams had sweeps, Kostelecky - Erickson and Vue - Halstrom, and 5 teams got shut out ( we won't name names in order to protect the innocent). Our next match will be July 13 most likely at Majestic Oaks, please keep your schedules free. we don't want to get beat and have to move down a bracket. As usual the final few spots will be determined by the most current handicap list in the week prior to july 13.

We will need all of our best players to be available in order to make up the deficit. Those of you who are always on the team please let me know if you can't play. Those last few spots will be based on May 23 handicaps. Excellent debut's for 2 new members, Ray Serie and Kelvin Vue who both were part of 3 point sweeps.

April 24, 2008

Its a slow start to the new season but the 24 man team matches are about to get rolling. We are in Class A this year which has been shrunk to 8 teams. New this year is a consolation bracket, so we are guaranteed to be playing thru august. Our first match is with Chaska Town course on may 4 at home and on June 1 at Chaska. As in past years we are looking to field our best golfers. The cut last year typically fell around an index of 4.0. The lowest 20 handicaps who are available are guaranteed a spot, with the last 4 spots filled either by request from our best players or by "captains choice" . If there are any new Men's Club members, or old members who have not typically played but are now interested please let me know. Any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Despite playing fairly good golf today, we are down 19 1/2- 16 1/2 to a very good Majestic Oaks team. The best of those good scores was Kostelecky / Weiss who shot best ball 30 on the back 9 and Odegard / Fairchild who shot 65 with Mike Fairchild shooting 71 on his own ball.
We will have to go to their course on Aug.5 and score at least 20 pts. The only good news is that we did it 2 years ago before losing in a playoff.  If our handicaps stay about the same, the cut line will fall close to 4.0 depending on who all is available. We will use handicaps from July 19. If you expect to be low enough please let me know if you can play.

The team pulled off the tough task of beating the opponent on their home course with a 19 1/2 to 16 1/2 victory over Fountain Valley to take the overall match 37 1/2 to 34 1/2.  It was truly a come-from-behind win when the last 5 groups (see them below) won 13 of 15 possible points.  GOOD JOB TEAM!!!!!

May 31, 2007

We are playing at Fountain Valley on June 3. We are currently tied 18-18 and will need to beat them on their course in order to avoid an early exit. Play hard for every 1/2 point whether you are way up or way down. We may need them all.

Are you a low handicapper with an interest in match play?  If so, your talents are needed by the Fox Hollow 24 Man Team.  The first match versus Fountain Valley at Fox Hollow will be on Sunday, May 6th.  If you handicap is single digit, you might get a call from Captain Joe Sicora.  If you're new and interested, contact Joe.  (See the newsletter for his contact information).  Be prepared to play these matches on the first Sunday of every month!!!

Sept 11, 2006
The 24-Man Team season came to a disappointing end with Fox Hollow losing to Monticello Country Club 23.5 to 12.5.  In spite of that, the team enjoyed a very good season advancing to the semi-finals with wins over Como and Baker (see below).

On behalf of the Men's Club and especially all the players who participated in the matches, I would like to thank Captain Joe Sicora for all his work for the team and his tireless recruiting efforts.  Joe definitely played a large part in the success the team enjoyed this season.

Sept. 7, 2006
Here's the  lineup for Sunday's match against Monticello CC at The Links at Northfork (neutral site).

Aug 5, 2006

With much persuasion from Captain Joe, the team managed to get 15 points (one more than was necessary) and hang on to defeat Baker National 37.5 to 34.5 to advance to the semi finals.  Joe would like to thank Dana Erdahl, who took a call before 8:00am Sunday morning, and showed up to fill in for Todd Hasz, whose wife was delivering their new baby boy.  CONGRATULATIONS TODD AND FAMILY!!!!!.  He would like to thank all those who played and apologize to those who didn't but will be needed in the future.....keep your game sharp.  The team of  Mike Manion and Jeff Jacobson shot a best ball 67 and was the only team to sweep all 3 points.  It appears the next match will be against Monticello at Links of Northfork on Sept 10. Team will be finalized based on handicaps on 8/18.

July 10, 2006
Step one of revenge against Baker is complete. The Fox Hollow 24-Man Team has taken a 22.5 to 13.5 point lead after the first half of the home/home match against Baker National.  The teams of Dave Schleuter/Chip Norby, Todd Hasz/Ken Pratley, and John Dodd/Joe Sicora all swept their matches 3 - 0.  We will need at least 14 pts at Baker on Aug. 6 to move on. I will not be happy with less than a victory on their course; however. Our lead should be more except for a petty rules violation that was called on one of our twosomes. All you 4 and under handicaps please keep Aug. 6 open.  I will be finalizing the roster based on handicaps on 7/21.

Joe Sicora, Captain.

July 6, 2006

Our next match is this unday against Baker at home. the rematch will be at Baker on Aug.6. We will be missing Mike Manion, Jason Cargill, Kevin Horvath and Charlie Smith on Sunday, But Scott Kostelecky, Kurt Halstrom and Jon Spetz will be playing. Hopfully we can keep it close and have full attendance in August. We will be playing blue tees and the pins will be set up difficult.

June 4, 2006

The Fox Hollow 24 Man team won the second half of the home-and-home series today 18 1/2- 17 1/2 on their course without 5 of our best golfers. I'm impressed with our depth. The team won the match 46 to 26. Next round will be at home on July 9 against our arch enemies, Baker. I once again expect a lot of competition for the last few spots. Play well, keep your handicaps down.
 Joe Sicora, Captain

May 6, 2006

The team did well against Como in the first half of the first round at Fox Hollow.  6 of the 12 teams won all 3 points and 3 others won 2 1/2 and Fox Hollow takes a 27 1/2 to 8 1/2 lead into the away portion of the match at Como on June 4.

May 1, 2006

Our first round match is against Como at Fox on Sunday May 7.  Once again we have had an excellent turnout. We are only missing a couple of our lower handicap guys. I'm sorry there is not room for everyone who is willing and capable of playing. we have a large number of people with handicaps in the 5 and 6 range and the only way I know of to be fair is to take the lowest 24 who are willing and interested. No one's spot is guaranteed if their handicap goes too high. Conversely if your handicap is low enough, I will be calling you. I try to have everything settled a couple of weeks ahead of each match. Our next round is June 4 at Como.
