The Wednesday 18 "Classic" Match Play Event

The Classic is a team competition, four-ball match play.  This is a match in which two play their better ball (with handicaps) against the better ball of the other two players.

This event requires an additional $20 per team entrance fee payable in the golf shop.

 2008 Classic Event Notes:

The Wednesday classic event will be conducted on somewhat the same format as an USGA amateur event.  The first round on May 28th will be a stroke play 2 man net best ball qualifying event.  Both players play their own ball on each hole. The lowest net score of the 2 players is recorded as the team score for each hole.  For the qualifying the handicap allowance will be 90% of course Handicap per USGA Handicap System Sec 9-4 (b) (ii).

Course Handicaps of the members of a side may not differ by more than eight strokes.  If a difference of more than eight strokes cannot be avoided then an additional 10% reduction will be applied to the course handicaps of the members of the side with a course handicap difference exceeding eight strokes.  (USGA Handicap System Sec 9-4 (a) (iii) and Sec 9-4 (b) ii)  This only applies to the first round stroke play qualifying.

For Example:
Player A has a course handicap of 8 and Player B has a course handicap of 20.  For stroke play Player A plays with as 6 handicap and player B as a 16 handicap computed as follows:
Player A receives 7 strokes (8 x 90% =7.2 rounded to 7) and Player B receives 18 strokes (20 x 90%=18).   Since, there is more than an eight stroke difference between partners (after allowance, 18-7 =11).  Therefore, both players would then be reduced an additional 10% based on the rounded Course handicap.  Player A receives 6 strokes (7 x 10%=.7; 7 - .7 =6.3, rounded to 6) and Player B receives 16 strokes (18 x 10% = 1.8; 18-1.8 = 16.2, rounded to 16).

The low 16 teams will advance to match play.  (Ties for the last place will be settled by scorecard playoff). See Ties Below.   The low 16 teams will each receive $20 per team.

How to settle Ties stroke play qualifying: USGA Handicap sec 9-5 (b)

Match the last nine holes.  If the players have the same score for the last nine holes, then use the last six holes, if still tied use the last three holes.  If there is still no winner, then the last hole is used.

Additional Rounds Match Play:

The low 16 teams for match play will use handicap allowance per USGA Handicap systems Sec 9-4 (a) (iii) as follows:  “Reduce the course handicaps of all four players by the course handicap of the player with the lowest handicap, who shall then play from scratch. Allow each of the other three players 100% of the difference.

Example: Players A,B,C,D have a course handicap of 5,10,15,20 respectively.  Player plays at scratch, B receives 5 strokes, C receives 10 strokes and D receives 15 strokes.
