2020 Wednesday 18-Hole Information

Wednesday 18-Hole General League Information

Flights for events will be assigned as follows:
Flighted events will have 1 flight if the number of players or teams is 18 or less. 2 flights if the number of players or teams is 19-36. 3 flights if 37-54.  4 flights if 55 thru 72.  5 flights if 73 thru 90.  6 flights if above 90.  Progressive Skins will have 2 flights – net skins and gross skins.  Flight size may vary slightly due to handicap ties or an irregular number of players in a flight.  League chair may modify this to accommodate unusual circumstances.

Money Payouts for Regular events as follows:
The league chair has determined the amount of money each event will pay out.  Regular event payouts will be in gift certificate money (chits) in the golf shop. The total payout for the event will be split evenly over each flight. Within the flights of events, the payout will be 50% for first, 30% for second and 20% for third except for Quota Points which will pay every player who EXCEEDS (not equals) their quota.  Match play events will award chit payouts to the winners of each regular round (excluding “play in” rounds).  The league chair may modify this to accommodate unusual circumstances.

Fox Cup Championship (FCC) Qualification points
FCC points will be awarded at 50 points per flight for individual events, 100 points per flight for 2-man events and 200 points per flight for 4-man team events.  Within flights, the points will be awarded at 50% for first, 30% for second, and 20% for third except for Quota Points events which will award FCC points to all players who EXCEED (not equal) their quota. Match play events will award chit payouts to the winners of each regular round (excluding “play in” rounds).  The league chair may modify this to accommodate unusual circumstances.

Progressive and Giants skins games: If they are an official event, FCC points will be awarded based on low net scores within flights and NOT on the number or amount of skins won.

Event Description

The classic is four-ball match play tournament conducted throughout the season. The committee may designate the first week(s) of this event as qualifying for entrance into the match play bracket. If so, the qualifying score will be 2 man net best ball stroke play. The size of the bracket (number of teams) will be determined by League Chairmen. Seeding for teams advancing to match play will be based on the qualifying score.

Event Entry Fees

The event may require an additional entry fee per team payable in the golf shop.

Handicap Allowances

Handicap allowance FOR THE QUALIFYING ROUND is calculated by taking 90% off of the course handicap for the combination of nines being played. If team members have a USGA handicap difference of more than eight strokes, then there is an additional 10% reduction. Handicap allowance FOR THE MATCHES is calculated based on the USGA Handicap systems recommendation: “Reduce the course handicaps of all four players by the course handicap of the player with the lowest handicap, who shall then play from scratch. Allow each of the other three players 100% of the difference. The calculation is done with full handicap, no reduction. The reduction is only for the stroke play qualifying. (See above)

How to Conduct the Event

In four-ball match play, two play their better ball against the better ball of two other players. All 4 players play their own ball on each hole. The lowest net score of the 2 players on each team is recorded as the team score for each hole. The team having the lowest net score on a hole wins that hole. The team winning the most holes during the round wins the match. The net score for a hole is determined by subtracting any strokes that the player receives (based on handicap) from the players actual score.

Settling Ties

The method to settle ties in stroke play qualifying is based on USGA Handicap sec 9-5 (b) recommendation: Match the last nine holes. If the teams have the same score for the last nine holes, then use the last six holes, if still tied use the last three holes. If the teams have the same score for the last nine holes, then use the last six holes, if still tied use the last three holes. If there is still no winner, then the last hole is used.

The method to settle ties in matches is to play extra holes at sudden death. The first team to win a hole is the match winner. Handicaps are applied as if an entire round were being played. If extra holes cannot be played, then ask someone from the pro shop to administer a chip-off on the practice green.

DATES OF COMPETITION
Any Qualifying Rounds MUST be played on the designated days.  Players advancing to match play should contact each other and sign up for a tee time that is suitable to all.  The match MUST be played prior to (or on) the designated deadline date for each round of matches.  NO EXCEPTIONS

If the match has not been completed by the deadline, it will take place on the deadline date.  The players who show up for the match on that date will conduct the match, no matter how many there are.  If just one player shows up, that player(s) team will win.  If no players show up, both teams/players will forfeit.

9/26 Fox Cup Championship

*Open to all Men’s Club Players who have qualified

The Fox Hollow Men’s Club Fox Cup Championship is an event for members who have qualified during the season. The qualifying requirements are based on a season-long points competition. Points are awarded for high finishes in events throughout the season.  The points allocation for each event is determined by the league chairmen. See the league schedule pages for details.

At the end of the season, the highest points winners in each league will qualify for this event. The number of qualifiers from each league is determined by taking a percentage based on the number of players in each league matched against the total players in the men’s club. If a player qualifies in more than one league, it just means they are qualified, no other compensations or player standings adjustments will be made.

Additionally, the winners of flights in the Combination Tournament and the Club Championship will earn a spot in this event.

A tee time sign up sheet will be posted on the club bulletin board following the final qualifying event. Sign up for your own tee time on the Men’s Club bulletin board no later than 1 week prior to this event.

On the day of the event, all Fox Cup Championship (FCC) Qualifiers will play 18 holes of stroke play. Approximately 15 players will qualify for the FCC Shootout which will take place immediately following the completion of all qualifying rounds (i.e. same day).

The event chairs will determine how many gross and how many net qualifiers move on to the shootout.

The Shootout is an elimination event. All players start out playing the first hole. The players with the highest score(s) on each hole will be eliminated. This continues until only one player is left – he will be the winner. The event will be net with strokes falling on the holes as if this were the front 9 of an 18 hole event. The number of players eliminated on the first hole depends on the number of qualifiers. After the first hole, 2 players per hole will be eliminated. If there are ties for the high score, elimination will be determined by a chip-off. In the chip-off, the player(s) farthest from the hole are eliminated.

Information about the time and location of the shootout will be given prior to the 18-hole qualifying round on the day of the event.

– This event is considered one of our “Major” events and the scores will be entered into the GHIN Handicapping system as a “T” (tournament) score.
